The Patrol Division is the largest and most
visible section of the department and is the first line of defense
in protection for the citizens of Carencro. Officers in the
division are divided into four shifts and work two days on, two
days off, with every other weekend off. Patrol Officers handle a
variety of duties, including traffic enforcement, accident
investigation and are responsible for handling all dispatched
calls for service and for patrolling the city limits of Carencro.
Included in the Patrol Division are two
dual-purpose K-9 units. These units are utilized
for all in progress/high priority calls and consist of one trained
K-9 and a certified K-9 handler. The K-9's are required to
complete several months of rigorous training before being paired
with a handler. The handler then must complete another 4 weeks of
training with the dog and certify at national standards before
working on the road. Both K-9's utilized by the Carencro Police
Department are Belgian Malinois which are trained in narcotics
detection and criminal apprehension. |

Reserve Division |
| The Reserve Division is under the command of
Lieutenant Mike Gervais. This Division is comprised of men and women who have
professional careers outside of law enforcement who want to give
back to their community. These officers supplement the full-timers
whenever they have the time and or when they are called upon to
assist. These officers have the same powers and provide the same
protection to the citizens of Carencro as the full-timers. Our
reserve officers go through all required training and the only
difference from the full-timers is that they volunteer their time.
